Country Brand Strength Index

Germany is ranked first out of 60 countries in the National Brands Index by Ipsos for the eighth time overall and for the sixth year in a row. Germany is number one in the NBI rankings in 2008, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and now in 2022.

Japan’s strong rankings in export, tourism and culture indexes helped it rise to second place in the overall NBI rankings.

Canada, after breaking into the top two for the first time in 2021, is back in third place. Canada is dropping in the governance rankings where it once held the top spot. However, it is still number one in population, immigration and investment indices.

The UK, which was second in 2020 and fifth in 2021, fell back to sixth. The UK ranks well in culture, exports, immigration and investment indices and is particularly positive in terms of contemporary culture, science and technology, good attitudes towards buying goods in the UK and educational qualifications.

Italy (4th), France in fifth, Switzerland (7th), USA (8th), Sweden (9th) and Australia (10th) maintain their positions in the top 10 ranking since 2021, despite an above-average decline. Switzerland, Sweden and Australia score highly in management, personnel, immigration and investment, while Italy ranks first in culture and tourism. The strengths of the United States lie in the export index.

In 2021, Russia ranked 27th with a strong reputation in the Culture, Export and Tourism indices. In 2022, Russia ranks 58th in the ranking.
