Dividend volume in the second quarter of 2022

The global volume of dividends paid in the second quarter reached a record $544.8 billion. According to the Janus Henderson Global Dividend Index, the amount was an all-time record.

In the second quarter of 2022, the largest payouts were made by banks and financial institutions — almost a quarter of the total amount or $140 billion. This is 15.7% more than in the first quarter of 2022.

Companies in the fuel and energy sector increased their dividends more than others. In the second quarter of 2022, they paid out about $45 billion to shareholders, which is 88% more than in the first quarter of 2022. High energy prices affected the growth.

US companies set a payout record, distributing more than $144 billion to shareholders. European entities accounted for $165.8 billion of the total.
