Economic sentiment indicator

The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in the eurozone countries fell by 1.3 percentage points over the month and amounted to 97.6 points in August, the press service of the European Commission reported. This is the lowest level of ESI in the last 19 months, notes Bloomberg.

Among the largest EU economies, the ESI fell especially sharply in the Netherlands (minus 4.3 p.p.), Germany (minus 2.5 p.p.), France and Poland (minus 1.8 p.p.) and Italy (minus 1.2 p.p.). Spain stood out with moderate growth — plus 0.8 p.p.

The fall was most pronounced in industry, where the index fell from 3.4 to 1.2 points, and in services, where it fell from 10.4 to 8.7 points.
