Leaders in International Patent Applications

In 2021, China ranked first in the world in the number of international patent applications filed. China has submitted 69,540 applications.

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei, which filed 6,952 applications, became the leader in the number of patent applications in 2021.

Zhejiang University submitted 306 such applications and ranked second among the world’s educational institutions in this indicator.

The top five also included the US, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Germany, with 59,570, 50,260, 20,678 and 17,322 applications, respectively.
