Maersk orders environmentally friendly ships

The world’s largest container shipping company, A.P. Moller – Maersk A / S has ordered eight new vessels, worth $ 175 million each, which can carry around 16,000 containers and run on pure methanol instead of oil-based fuels. They will be delivered in 2024 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co.

Maersk has an option for four more vessels to be delivered in 2025.

The pure methanol that ships will use is “at least twice as expensive” as the very low sulfur fossil fuel oil that many container ships use today. Doubling the cost of fuel means a rate hike of about 15%, Bloomberg writes.

For the first time in history, the US government announced a shortage of water in the Colorado River, which flows through the territory of 7 states.
