Pavel Sorokin, deputy head of the Russian Ministry of Energy, in an interview with kp.ru, explained why gasoline is becoming more expensive in the country, while the price of oil on world markets has dropped. According to the official, three factors affect the cost of fuel in Russia.
“The first factor: gasoline in Russia is sold in rubles. At the same time, it usually happened that a rise in oil prices led to a strengthening of the ruble, and vice versa. Therefore, when the price of oil on world markets changes, its cost in rubles usually does not change much – as a rule, it is in the range from 3,000 to 3,500 rubles per barrel. But in mid-March, when oil rose in price, the ruble exchange rate did not strengthen. Therefore, oil cost more than five thousand rubles per barrel, “Sorokin explained.
Secondly, as pointed out by the deputy head of the Ministry of Energy, the two-percent growth rate of gasoline prices practically does not differ from the inflation rate. According to Sorokin, if the price of gasoline fluctuated in the same way as the price of oil, this would cause a negative reaction from both business and the population. For this, a special damper mechanism was introduced, which allows keeping the price of gasoline within the framework of inflation and ensuring the predictability of the market.
“And the third point – business is always reluctant to reduce retail prices. Unfortunately, this is typical of the commercial sector. Therefore, even before the damper, when oil prices fell, gasoline did not become much cheaper,” Sorokin concluded.

Tourists without masks and passports were taken away by the police
In Antalya, another roundup took place: tourists came under a police check taking place on the beaches of the resort. Officially, tourists exempt from curfews can enjoy their time on the beach without any disturbance. However, they are also at risk: during checks from the beach, police officers take tourists who did not have passports with them – the fact is that the beach is still banned for local residents, and police can distinguish a local from a tourist only on a formal basis – by a passport. This is what happened during the Sunday check: the police checked the passports and dates of entry of tourists sitting on the beach. Tourists who did not have their passports were taken away from the beach, while Turkish media noted that checks were also carried out in Fatih and Edirne.

Kudrin explained the difference in salaries of state employees in the West and in Russia
The head of the Accounts Chamber, Alexei Kudrin, explained the difference in salaries of state employees in Russia and in the West. He acknowledged that the level is strikingly different, but the problem cannot be solved simply by increasing budget spending. His words are reported by RIA Novosti. According to him, the share of wages in the GDP of foreign countries is higher, but labor productivity is also higher there.
“This is a different return, it has to do with the structure of jobs, which are more productive,” Kudrin explained. “Countries that have set themselves the task of bringing teachers’ salaries to the level of the average for the economy – only a few countries have allowed themselves to do this,” he added.
Last year, Putin said that since the turn of the century, the proportion of Russians who can be classified as middle class has exceeded 70 percent. The head of state relied on the methodology of the World Bank, where the middle class is considered to be people with incomes one and a half times the minimum wage (minimum wage). For Russia at that time, this income was 17 thousand rubles.
Kudrin named the regions most dependent on federal subsidies:
Ingushetia – 86% of revenues come from federal funds
Tuva, Ingushetia, Chechnya – 83-86%
Dagestan and Karachay-Cherkessia – 74%

Large-scale reshuffles in Brazil:
The country has new ministers of defense, justice, internal and foreign affairs and the attorney general. President Bolsonaro has long denied the seriousness of the illness, but “his tone has changed in recent weeks.”
The most resonant was the resignation of Araujo – as his predecessor put it, “the worst foreign minister who has ever been in Brazil.” Araujo was known for his criticism of Xi Jinping and his “loyalty” to Trump, which angered Biden. The minister took a leave of absence during his inauguration, and called those who stormed the Capitol “honest citizens.” Araujo is accused of undermining Brazil’s reputation and for putting the lives of Brazilians at risk, ruining relations not only with China, but now with the United States.
The Kremlin commented on the military coup in Myanmar:
AFP: Is the Kremlin monitoring the situation in Myanmar, where more than 100 protesters died last weekend, according to the UN, during the dispersal of a protest rally? Is there any reaction in the Kremlin?
Dmitry Peskov: Well, the reaction, we have already talked about it. We are very concerned about the growing number of civilian casualties. This is a very deep concern for us. We are following the developments in the situation in Myanmar most closely.
Ekho Moskvy: The fact is that the deputy head of the RF Ministry of Defense was present at the military parade in Myanmar. And in general, the rest of the countries largely ignored this event. Does his presence there mean any support or recognition of the regime that is now established in Myanmar?
Dmitry Peskov: Well, you know that we have long-standing and rather constructive ties with Myanmar. There are still certain developments in terms of bilateral relations. And it is from this angle that you need to relate to this. This does not at all mean, of course, approval of the tragic events that are taking place in the country.

Peskov accused “immature” society of rampant corruption
The problem of corruption in Russia is related to the fact that society is not “ripe”: people themselves give bribes, and this is unlikely to change in the near future, said presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov in an interview with AiF. According to him, “absolute intolerance towards it” should appear in order to fight corruption.
He added that he sees no point in repeating the experience of China in Russia, where citizens can report cases of corruption to law enforcement agencies through a special application.
“They will knock right and left, on business and without business,” said Peskov, adding that, taking into account “historical experience,” such a mechanism would lead to “a huge amount of abuse.”
