MarketScreener reports that Microsoft and Finnish energy company Fortum have announced a joint project in Finland to use excess heat from Microsoft’s data center servers to heat homes and offices.
The project using thermal energy from servers promises to be the largest in the world. He will work in the Helsinki agglomeration.
Fortum’s district heating infrastructure will be used to collect and transfer heat. We are talking about 900 kilometers of underground pipes, which now serve 250,000 consumers in the Helsinki agglomeration.
According to Fortum’s calculations, the project with Microsoft will reduce harmful emissions by about 400,000 tons per year.
