Spain imposed a fine for smoking on the beach

The law, approved by the Spanish Senate, gives local municipalities the right to ban smoking on the beach and to fine for it 2000 euros. The measure is aimed at combating environmental pollution: for Spanish beaches, litter in the form of cigarette butts is a serious problem.

Other measures foreseen by the law include banning the use of single-use plastics, removing asbestos from buildings, and encouraging the return of containers (such as bottles) to stores.

Several Spanish regions, including Barcelona and the Canary Islands, have already banned smoking on their beaches. The same was done in other regions of Europe, for example, in parts of southern France and Sardinia.

However, no European country has yet introduced a national ban, writes Mail Online.
