The Investigation Bureau of Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice sent more than 100 investigators to search 14 companies associated with the island’s semiconductor industry.
The bureau said that many mainland Chinese companies circumvented the rules and set up R&D centers in Taiwan and poached experienced Taiwanese employees.
This, according to the bureau, could jeopardize Taiwan’s national security and its global competitiveness. According to the bureau, many of these Chinese companies masqueraded as local or non-Chinese foreign companies in order to do business on the island without regulatory approval.
Last April, Taiwan banned job postings in China.
Also last year, Taiwanese prosecutors launched an investigation into China’s Bitmain Technologies, the world’s leading developer of cryptocurrency mining chips, for illegally poaching more than 100 Taiwanese engineers.
