The EC adopted the REPowerEU plan

The European Commission has adopted a long-term REPowerEU plan to phase out Russian energy resources, including gas. This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

According to TASS, Von der Leyen announced several measures aimed, among other things, at the abandonment of Russian energy resources. Thus, the EU will need to reduce energy consumption by 13% in order to become independent of Russian energy imports, up to €300 billion will be mobilized for energy reforms. Joint purchases of energy resources by EU countries are proposed to avoid competition. In addition, the EC proposes to oblige from 2025 to install solar panels on all commercial and public buildings and on new residential buildings by 2029.

According to Ursula von der Leyen, the European Union wants to increase the share of renewable energy to 45% by 2030. She also noted that in a year (from April 2021 to April 2022) the European Union managed to reduce Russian gas consumption to 26% from 40%.
