The most popular language versions of Wikipedia

Despite the fact that Wikipedia has pages in hundreds of different languages, the list of really popular languages is very small and in many countries people read Wikipedia more often in a foreign language than in their native language.

For example, the English version of Wikipedia ranks first not only in English-speaking countries, but also in India, Norway, Iceland, many Balkan countries, African countries, Southeast Asia, and even Mongolia. And also in Georgia!

The French Wikipedia is the most popular choice of people in many African countries, and in Muslim countries, the Arabic version of Wikipedia is most often visited.

And the Russian-language version of Wikipedia, in addition to Russia, took first place in many countries of Central Asia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova.

Researchers at University College London (UCL) turned human skin cells into light-sensitive cones, which were then forced to layer up to look like real eyes. These eye organelles will help scientists study diseases that cause blindness and experiment with treatments. The study was published in the journal Stem Cell Reports.

“It is difficult to study the inaccessible tiny nerve cells in a patient’s retina because they are very intricately connected and delicately located at the back of the eye. We now have the technology to reprogram cells into stem cells and then create lab-grown retinas with the same DNA and therefore the same genetic conditions as our patients,” said Dr. Ye Chwan Leong, first author of the study.
