TV manufacturers make money from data sales

The American company Vizio makes cheap smart TVs that start at $ 139. But she earns her main income by tracking user actions and passing this information to advertisers: for nine months of 2021, this brought her $ 57.3 million in gross profit, and she received half as much from sales of equipment — $ 25.6 million.

Samsung, LG, Roku and others are also engaged in similar earnings. For 2017, Roku generated two-thirds of its revenue, or about $ 225 million, from data and ad sales.

User preferences are actively bought by Google, Facebook, Netflix, Spotify and other companies.

According to analysts, in 2021, the revenue of LG, Samsung and Vizio from the sale of data and advertising will be about $ 1.37 billion, and in 2026 it will grow to more than $ 6 billion.
